Sam Catlett, CFP, CPWA, CEPA

Managing Director/Investments

Sam began his investment industry career in 1999 and joined Stifel in 2022. His passion lies in digging deep to truly understand clients’ most important needs and priorities, as well as developing comprehensive and creative strategies to address them. Along with the associates in the home office, he is involved in every aspect of financial planning for our clients, from education, retirement, tax, estate, and legacy planning strategies to business succession and exit strategies. He holds the Certified Financial Planner™ and Certified Private Wealth Advisor® certifications, as well as the Certified Exit Planning Advisor designation.

Prior to joining Stifel, Sam worked as a Senior Portfolio Manager in the UBS Portfolio Management Program, where he focused on asset allocation, customized portfolio construction, and tax-aware active portfolio management. He spent the first chapter of his career in banking, helping entrepreneurs finance and grow their businesses. He was involved in two community bank start-ups before starting up a private banking group in Wilmington for a large Southeastern bank.  Sam’s private banking experience paved the way for his career in wealth management, which began in 2000.

Outside of the office, Sam mentors business students at University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) as a member of the Cameron Executive Network. He serves on the boards of the Wrightsville Beach Foundation, Seapath Yacht Club, and his family’s nonprofit, One Way Out.

Sam was born and raised in Henderson, North Carolina. UNCW brought him to Wilmington, where he met his wife, Christine. After a short stint following graduation, he and Christine moved back to Wilmington in 1989 and have lived there since. Sam and Christine have two grown children. His son, Dylan, is a Data Scientist at Lumos Technologies in Wilmington, North Carolina, and his daughter, Marley, is a Senior Research Associate at Academy Health in Washington, D.C. Sam and Christine now live at Wrightsville Beach with their two rescue dogs, Peanut and Tripp. In his free time, you can find Sam enjoying the outdoors around Wrightsville Beach, walking the dogs, boating, paddle boarding, biking, running, and playing pickle ball.

Todd Godin, CPWA

Managing Director/Investments

Todd began his investment industry career in 1998 and joined Stifel in 2022. Before joining Stifel, he spent nearly 25 years at UBS Financial Services. He is passionate about client relationships and enjoys working closely with clients to help appropriately address issues and pursue their long-term objectives. He prides himself on understanding clients’ unique financial fears and challenges and enjoys the complexities of working with large family businesses, large family estates, and corporate and medical professionals.

Todd earned the Certified Private Wealth Advisor® certification, which is designed for experienced financial advisors who seek the advanced knowledge and breadth of specialized skills necessary to address the sophisticated needs of high-net-worth clients. To earn the certification, candidates must meet a five-year experience requirement, successfully complete coursework in advanced wealth management strategies, and pass the Investments & Wealth Institute’s comprehensive examination covering 11 core topics, including applied behavioral finance, charitable giving, estate planning, and wealth transfer.

Todd grew up in Aberdeen, North Carolina, and moved to Wilmington in 1993. He has been happily married to his wife, Mary, for 24 years. Outside of the office, they are active in their community of Landfall. He has two sons who play soccer and love to surf. His younger son, David, was part of the New Hanover High School soccer team that won the 2021 4A North Carolina State Soccer Championship. His older son, Daniel, is a student at Todd’s alma mater, University of North Carolina Wilmington. The Godin family loves living the “Salt Life” on the beautiful coast of North Carolina. In his spare time, you can find Todd boating, golfing, playing pickle ball, and hanging out with friends. He was a founder of Hampstead Kiwanis Park and served as president for 10 years. Todd’s hard work with the park earned him the North Carolina Outstanding Service Medallion Award given by Governor Mike Easley.

Fun Facts:  Todd raced bicycles for more than five years (in the 1980s and early 1990s), training 500 miles a week at his peak and traveling the East Coast. He got hit by a car in a race in 1991 that ended his racing career and later found his love for Wall Street. Todd later interned on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange during the summer of 1995, where he learned about futures, commodities, and the open outcry system, all while enjoying everything Chicago had to offer.
